Burundian Sponsor

It has been said that war changes culture. We see that proven true in many ways in Burundi. One of the most gratifying examples of this culture change occurred in Sister Connection recently: a Burundian has connected to a Burundian widow!

Our first Burundian sponsor, Floride (pronounced "floor-eed") is a prominent business woman in Bujumbura, Burundi's capital city. Motivated by compassion, she entered the Sister Connection office in Burundi and asked Joy, our national director, to tell her about the ministry. They talked for a long time, and Floride shared her own history as the child of a widow. Floride's father was killed for ethnic reasons in 1972 and she fell under the stigma of being fatherless, the child of a widow.

When she asked, "Would I be permitted to sponsor a widow?" the answer was an enthusiastic "Yes!" Joy helped her make the connection, and Floride is now sponsoring a Sister Connection widow, offering her healing, dignity and hope. Something that was denied Floride's own mother so many years ago.

War changes culture, and Sister Connection is committed to participating in that change–in Jesus' name.
