The Gift of Time and Talent
On a recent trip to Burundi, Sister Connection photographed every widow in the organization to provide the sponsors with an updated picture of their sister. When Mitzi Smetters heard about this, she thought each widow should also receive a copy of their photograph.
Mitzi Smetters, a wife of a pastor and a recent widow herself, is connected to the widow of a Burundian pastor. She helped her Burundian sister build a house and is a foundational supporter of Sister Connection as well.
In order to provide each Burundian widow with her own photograph, Mitzi prepared the digital photos for over 200 widows, paid for three copies each -- one for the sponsor, one for the widow, and one for the Sister Connection office -- and bought frames for the widows’ photos.
When the widows received these incredible gifts, their faces lit up like children on Christmas morning. For many, it was the first time they’d seen a photograph of themselves!
Not only were the widows blessed to see themselves in a photograph, but many of the sponsors felt blessed as well. They were excited to see the improvement their sponsorship has made in the lives of the widows. It was clear in their faces -- eyes filled with joy instead of sorrow, smiles of hope instead of utter despair. The widows now have clean, healthy skin and bright, colorful clothing has replaced their ragged cloth.
The preparation and processing of these photos was an amazing gift to Sister Connection! This seemingly simple effort by a Sister Connection sponsor has blessed hundreds of people.
Even the smallest, most simple talents and gifts can be multiplied to bless the lives of both the widows and sponsors. Donating services to Sister Connection is a great way to partner with us, letting God use your various resources and skills in unique ways.
