A Mustard Seed (Matthew 13:31-32)
Jesus said the Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed. Though it is the smallest of seeds, as God nourishes its life, the mustard seed becomes the largest plant in the garden. It grows to the size of a tree and offers shelter for the birds—some of nature's most delicate and beautiful creatures.
Sister Connection began as a mustard seed in the hearts of two women. One had lost all of her brothers to ethnic violence; the other had lived among the people of Burundi and had grown to love them. God planted this smallest of seeds when He gave these two women a vision for Sister Connection. He has nurtured this ministry’s growth so that, today, many Burundian widows are finding shelter and comfort in the branches of this still small, but growing tree.

Sister Connection is committed to give 100% of every sponsorship dollar to the sponsored widow, withholding nothing for operational overhead. The same occurs with house building initiative - 100% goes toward construction or repair costs; nothing goes toward administration or marketing expenses related to this program.
To make this possible, Sister Connection relies on "Ministry Support" for the operational expenses in Burundi and the U.S. All U.S. staff members are volunteers or raise their own salary support. However, the staff in Burundi – the ones who minister directly to the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of over 400 widows - is paid. The majority of funds provided by Ministry Supporters go toward this purpose.
